BLSA Honors E. Christopher Johnson, Jr. ’81 at Annual Alumni Dinner

The New York Law School Black Law Students Association (BLSA) honored E. Christopher Johnson, Jr. ’81, vice president and general counsel for General Motors North America at its annual alumni dinner on April 7th.  The theme of the evening, which also offered special recognition to the classes of 1979 to 1983, was Reconstruction for the 21st Century: Fulfilling the Promise … Wakening the Dream.

E. Christopher Johnson, Jr. oversees legal operations for General Motors in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He leads a 250-member legal staff and manages strategic relations with more than 500 external law firms.

Last year, Mr. Johnson received the 2005 Urban Wheel Award as the auto industry’s African American Executive of the year. Mr. Johnson was honored for his work in support of racial and cultural diversity within the GM’s legal operations and the entire legal profession.

The BLSA annual alumni dinner was held in the Wellington Center and included a cocktail hour and silent auction.

The Black Law Students Association was organized to articulate and promote the professional needs and goals of black law students and others traditionally excluded from the American legal system. The New York Law School chapter of BLSA is affiliated with the national organization.
